Why rural family medicine?
Rural family medicine allows me to be a familiar, consistent presence in a community. The continuity and trust that comes with caring for generations of families is what makes this specialty so meaningful to me. It's a privilege to understand patients in context of their families, relationships and communities and advocate for them beyond clinic walls.
Fun fact:
One of my most memorable adventures in life was spending an exchange year in rural New Hampshire as a teenager from Pakistan. Somewhere between adjusting to small-town life and experiencing my first real winter, I was given the opportunity to deliver a TEDxTalk about Pakistan and promote cross-cultural understanding and peace.
