Michele A. Romano, M'84 and H'87 (Fairfax), and her husband Don, M.H.A.'73, were given one of VCU's highest honors at the VCU Commencement in May. Approved by the Board of Visitors and presented by President Rao, the Edward A. Wayne Medal is bestowed for exemplary generosity and service to the VCU community. One criterion for eligibility that the Romanos have demonstrated is "...a commitment to the Commonwealth and its citizens through leadership and/or personal philanthropy." In addition to supporting the College of Health Professions and the School of Nursing, the Romanos have included in their estate plans a gift that will create an endowed chair in Family Medicine in the School of Medicine, preserving the legacy of our department, created in 1970 to strengthen the health of the Commonwealth by preparing family physicians to serve throughout the state.
