In September, Alex Krist, M.D., M.P.H. (H'99 - Fairfax), was appointed VCU's inaugural Sheldon M. Retchin Professor in Healthcare Innovation.
The professorship, established to award an outstanding faculty member whose scholarship and clinical interests include reform of health care delivery, payment for healthcare services, quality of care, and population health, honors Dr. Sheldon Retchin. Retchin, who left VCU in 2015 after a 30-year career, was cited by VCU and VCU Health President Michael Rao as a leader whose "unwavering commitment to patients, fiscal excellence, cutting-edge facilities and team building helped propel VCU Health System into a nationally premier institution.”
As one of the top ten researchers in the discipline of Family Medicine, Dr. Krist embodies this dedication to healthcare reform and innovation. He has dedicated over three decades to advancing health services research and transforming healthcare through practice redesign, evidence-based medicine, and quality improvement. With numerous federal, state, and local grants for which he has served as Principal Investigator, he is committed to affecting change on all levels. His mentorship of medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty ensures that his work will provide lasting contributions for generations to come.
Congratulations, Dr. Krist!
